DL boys XC ninth at Lucky Lindy

Senior Tanner Olson led Detroit Lakes to a ninth place finish at the Lucky Lindy cross country Invitational Thursday, Sept. 13 in Little Falls.

Olson placed 22nd overall in a field of 156 runners with a time of 17:08.3.

Hopkins’ Eli Hoeft was the race medalist crossing the finish in 15:43.8 as the only runner to cut the 16-minute mark for the 5k race.

Moorhead won the team title with 62 points led by Zach Johnson and Dawson Strom with third and fourth place finishes individually. The Spuds (62), Hopkins (64) and Perham (66) all finished within four points of each other.

The Lakers placed ninth with 278 points.

Scoring for DL with Olson were: Peyton Nordby (17:28.5) in 33rd place; Grant Fritch-Gallatin (18:09.5) in 62nd; Tucker Strawsell (18:34.1) in 80th position and one spot back in 81st was Elijah Kitzmann (18:34.5).

The DL girls had an incomplete team score running only four races. Eighth-grader Kaitlyn Jorgenson (21:12.4) led the way in 36th place, followed by Lauren Lokken (21:45.7) 54th, Katie McConkey (22:08.5) 63rd, and Kennedy Hegg (23:30.3) in 90th. 

According to head coach Ryan Zunich, Jorgenson and Lokken joined McConkey on the top 10 all time Laker 5K record board.

Ingrid Buiceag-Arama of Sartell was the individual winner running a time of 19:13.2.

The top four teams finished within a dozen points: Alexandria 82, Sartell 88, Monticello 91, and Perham 94.

Both teams return to action at the Milaca Mega Meet Saturday, Sept. 22.
