LP-A’s Peterson runner-up at DL XC Invite

LP-A eighth-grader Lily Peterson finished in second place at the Detroit Lakes Invitational Thursday leading the Raider girls to a sixth place finish. Robert Williams/Tribune

Lake Park-Audubon’s Lily Peterson made her debut at state cross country as a seventh-grader last year and ran in the front pack Thursday placing second at the Detroit Lakes XC Invitational at Lakeview Golf Course.

Peterson ran a time of 21:06.9 finishing behind only Bemidji senior Sadie Hamrin and in front of 58 other runners leading the Raider girls to a sixth place finish in the team standings.

Frazee senior Ellie Morgan and junior Megan Danielson placed in the top 10 finishing sixth and ninth respectively. Morgan ran a time of 21:35; Danielson finished in 22:32.8.

Morgan was a top 35 finisher at state last year in her fifth appearance. Peterson completed her first run at St. Olaf in 125th place.

Frazee did not have a full team to compete as a team.

Running behind Peterson for the Raiders were: Beth Schauer (22nd-24:22.9), Maria Schauer (38th-27:15.5), Grace Schauer (40th-27:38.2) and Brianne Huesman (46th-28:40.7).

The senior/freshman duo of Carly Fritz (24:40.9) and Katie McConkey (24:45.9) led Detroit Lakes to an eighth place team finish. Fritz finished 24th with McConkey a spot back in 25th.

The DL scoring quintet included Cortney Brodsho (25:53) and Zoe Allen (25:59.8) in 34th and 35th places. Emma Fegely ran 27:54.9 to place 42nd.

Behind Hamrin’s winning time of 20:57.5, Bemidji scored 87 points to finish third overall. Alexandria put all five scoring runners in the top 13 to score 44 points and defeat runners-up West Central Area (60) by 16 points.

Kaylee McMichael ran 30:42.4 to lead DL in the girls JV 5K. The top Laker in the junior high 3,200m race was McKenna Mallow (16:06.5) in 21st.

AUSTIN GEDROSE 642, GRANT FRITCH-GALLATIN 640

Gedrose, Fritch-Gallatin lead Laker boys to fourth place

DL senior Austin Gedrose (19:03.5) and sophomore Grant Fritch-Gallatin (19:06.2) finished 13th and 14th overall to lead the Lakers a fourth place finish.

The Lakers scored 108 points to finish two points out of third place, held by West Central Area (106).

Junior Tanner Olson ran 19:57.4 to finish in the to 25 in 24th position. Fellow junior Tucker Strawsell was 28th overall running 20:11.6. Senior Braedon Davidson ran a time of 20:33.9 to place 32nd.

Alexandria and Bemidji battled for the top spot. The Cardinals scored 25 points with all five runners in the top 11 spots led by winner Jackson Wichtendahl (17:26.5). Bemidji scored 41 points. Soren Dybing led the Jacks in third place (17:40.4).

The DL junior high boys team placed fifth led by Clint Andresen (13:57.3) in 21st in the 3,200m race. The Laker JV placed third with Gabe Kitzman leading the way in 13th place (21:22.5) in a 5K race.
